PCS Day 2013

November 21, 2013

The 5th edition of PCS Day, took place on 20 November 2013, once more at the Arcotel Wimberger hotel in Vienna. Interest for this annual event continues to be very high. The conference attracted more than 100 participants from across Europe, both experienced and new railway business specialists, as well as IT experts from Railway Undertakings (RUs) and Infrastructure Managers (IMs)/Allocation Bodies (ABs).

Focus on new developments in the Path Coordination System (PCS)
This year the event programme focused on developments and improvements in PCS designed to support the new RFC function: Corridor OSS. The general session of the conference was opened by Seid Maglajlić, Chief Technical Officer of RailNetEurope (RNE), who presented the general features of the new PCS release (4.0).
Next, Juergen Pfeiffer, Sales & Timetabling Manager of RNE, presented the specific developments concerning the Corridor OSS and Pre-Arranged Paths functions in PCS. After lunch Pia Dittrich (Corridor OSS of the Rhine Alpine RFC) gave a presentation on the topic: “We are using PCS.”
This was followed by a live demonstration – ordering a Pre-Arranged Path in the Path Coordination System (PCS) – together with a showcase of how to use the new functions within the ordinary path request process. Mr Pfeiffer and Mr Maglajlić explained how these functions work to the audience and showed them live inside the system. This practical approach was much appreciated by the conference participants.

Technical Session
Besides the general PCS Day session, a technical session dedicated to experienced PCS users was performed in parallel. During this session, Vladimir Simjanoski and Viktor Cvetkovik (from Netcetera, software developer of PCS) gave an overview of the PCS Integration Platform R4.
Then Mr Maglajlić presented the business object model of TAF/TAP TSI and how this is implemented in PCS, together with a DB-Netz presentation on how their ordering system for paths is connected to PCS.
During the afternoon session, the architecture and message exchange were shown in detail by means of a live demonstration.
